Sappy Post is Sappy
I just wanted to take a minute and tell you about the beautiful woman that appears with my ugly mug in that picture up there. Her name is Stacie, and she’s my wife.  I say that with an immense feeling of pride and admiration.  Let’s be honest, readers: this dude married up.  WAY UP!  She’s just an incredible human being, inside and out.  I could not ask for a better mother for...

Just made some guacamole.  Now eating the fruits of my labor and watching a Star Trek: Voyager with Stacie.  Nice, relaxing end to a busy weekend. Happy Sunday.

50/50 :: A Short Review
Really enjoyed it. Very difficult to watch at times, but it’s about cancer.  What do you expect? The performances and writing are what make this film work.  Nothing fancy with the cinematography.  Just really, really good storytelling coupled with some really great performances.  Seth Rogen really surprised me a few times (although I really enjoy his comedic style as well), providing not...

ladyofthehouse asked: If you were forced to move your magical abode from the Narnia that is the Pacific Northwest, where would you relocate the Horn of Helm Hammerhand to? Perhaps the mighty towers of Gotham, where jaunty chapeaued crusaders roam the night?

So…if anyone is trying to think of something original and fun to get me for…um…Australia Day, which is this Thursday (and the closest event on the calendar I could find), I’m gonna put one of these rigs right up at the top of my wish list. Thanks to my buddy Mike for the link.

slavicinferno asked: I've got a tech question for you! I create training videos at my work and we've been using really basic software like Windows Movie Maker. I've been given the green light to upgrade to a better PC at work and use Adobe Premier to get better production value. What's your advice as far as that goes. Your videos look awesome! What do you use. How powerful of a machine do I need to...

SOPA Is Inevitable →
parislemon: Marco Arment has this exactly right. We may have beaten these variations of SOPA and PIPA, but the sad fact of that matter is that they — or something like them — will eventually pass.  Obviously, all things being equal, such bills should never pass. But all things aren’t equal. As with most things, this is actually all about money. The MPAA and the other content lobbies are going...

So
It stopped snowing sometime early yesterday afternoon.  Last night, I went out and dug the van and the driveway out so we could get Stacie off to work this morning. It didn’t go quite as planned. There’s a reason we call our place Helm’s Deep, despite the obvious ones of that being our surname and the fact that we’re Tolkien fans.  Helm’s Deep resides in a 5-home...
