I’m not sure there’s any band that I associate more with growing up than the Beastie Boys. Licensed to Ill came out in elementary school. Paul’s Boutique, junior high. Ill Communication, high school. Innumerable bootlegs (Seven Day Weekend!) and Hello Nasty, college. Beastie Boys lyrics are a common language shared among people my age on both coasts. So when someone responsible for all of that passes —I think you just want to salute them, really, and thank them for all the great things they made that hold all the meaning you can possibly to squeeze into them.

Push these dates up just a bit (Licensed to Ill was released when I was a freshman in HS) and this is dead on.
