That last pic got to me.
Hope I’m around to see my girls grow up. I know I need to start making some healthier choices in my life, lose this extra weight, eat better, etc.
Not that any of these things contributed to Adam’s death. It was a very rare form of cancer. Regardless, I know I can cut my chances of getting many forms of cancer with diet and exercise.
Perspective. That photo gave it to me loud and clear.
I’m not sure there’s any band that I associate more with growing up than the Beastie Boys. Licensed to Ill came out in elementary school. Paul’s Boutique, junior high. Ill Communication, high school. Innumerable bootlegs (Seven Day Weekend!) and Hello Nasty, college. Beastie Boys lyrics are a common language shared among people my age on both coasts. So when someone responsible for all of that passes —I think you just want to salute them, really, and thank them for all the great things they made that hold all the meaning you can possibly to squeeze into them.
Rest in Peace, MCA.
They were only the second group I’d seen in concert. 1986, Hara Arena, Dayton, Ohio. The “License to Ill Tour.” MCA was my favorite. Loved his brashness and attitude. Had so much respect for all the work he did for Tibet and other social justice issues.
I really, really hate cancer.
